Do you ever pursue a hobby with such a passion that you ask yourself; can I make a living doing this?
For Rich and Wendy Travalena, this was the burning question for the last six years as they watched their two sons, Rich Jr. and Matt, compete in various national and local ATV racing events.
The turning point came when Rich Sr. got transferred from his job in Harrisburg and had to spend every week away from his family from Monday to Friday, only coming home on the weekends with very little time to pursue the passion. Given the drive to be back with his family full-time and the love of ATVs and motorcycles, Uniontown Kawasaki became a reality.
This is the Travalena family’s first attempt at private business but given Mr. Travalena’s over 30 years of experience in the automotive business as an auto manufacturer’s representative, the family’s strong passion for the ATV and motorcycle hobby, and the support of friends and family, they did not go after it lightly.
They sought help from Fayette County SCORE office, which turned out to be a real world business management reality check. With SCORE’s assistance, the Kawasaki franchise was secured, the facility financed, and the many details of starting a business were worked out.
The business opened on Dec. 1, 2004, as a franchised dealer selling ATVs, on – and off-road motorcycles, and Mule utility vehicles.
On Christmas Eve, disaster struck with a major fire at the facility. With the help of many friends and family, throughout Christmas morning the majority of the inventory was saved but the newly remodeled building was badly damaged.
The fire damage has been repaired and the business is now reopened to serve the sales, service, and parts needs of our many newfound friends in the Fayette County and surrounding areas.
We are now into our 6th year of business and still going strong with a 2 new franchises, Can-Am ATVs & Can-Am Spyders . We are also planning on expanding our showroom and parts counters in the near future.
What we are trying to do with this website is expand our selling area to all around the U.S.A. We provide good service and great products and we want to offer both to everyone in the country. Thank you for visiting our website!
